The David's Weepabout
ZelkovaTM PPAF

JSC would like to announce the introduction of its second new tree, the David’s Weepabout Zelkova!  It is a weeping zelkova with some very unique features which you may read about below!

The leaves are very distinct because they have a very well defined curl or wave, which is one of the major differences from its counterpart, the zelkova serrata.  The leaves also have an abundance of trichomes (tiny hairs) which give the leaves a “velvety” texture.

The limb structure is also quite distinctive because there is a 60º bend in the middle of most branches, and in some instances, there is a 90º bend as well as the 60º bend.

The David’s Weepabout is also extremely drought tolerant and can survive well with only small amounts of water. This characteristic alone makes the David’s Weepabout ideal for landscaping because it makes it much more convenient not having to worry about watering everyday.  The tree also grows to a great size, averaging around 20-26 ft tall, and this too makes it ideal for all landscaping applications.

Fall color is another unique feature of the David’s Weepabout because the leaves change from dark green in the summer to a beautiful mixture of a rustic red and yellow-green in the fall.

The most amazing, gorgeous, and unique feature of the David’s Weepabout is that it appears to be frosted over as the sun rises and sets.  Whether you look at the tree at sunrise or sunset, the leafs appear to be sparkling as if it has diamonds on the leaves. This characteristic is due to the trichomes mentioned earlier.
